Most new Smart TVs made after 2015 use the new native Showmax app, and as such, it shares the same Parental PIN functionality with the Showmax.com website and Mobile apps. (more info can be found here What are Parental controls? However, certain older Smart TVs can only run earlier versions of the Showmax app which uses a different Parental PIN system and Profile Age Restrictions.
How can your tell which Showmax app your TV has installed?
Simply open the Showmax App on your Smart TV and navigate to ‘’sign out’’. On the sign out window, you will see the ‘V’ number. If your version number is V1.XX then your TV is using the older Showmax Version 1 app.
The Parental PIN system for the V1 app works on the basis that all profiles need a unique PIN to provide security for all profiles. This stops any user from entering another person's profile without the PIN. You can set the profile PINs for your V1 app on the following link: showmax.com/settings
PLEASE NOTE: Whilst the V1 PIN system stops individual users getting into other profiles - you may still wish to set an appropriate Profile Age Restriction for a profile to ensure the content is suitable. The V1 app operates slightly different to that of the showmax.com and mobile apps.
You can still create and edit profiles using the ‘’Manage Profiles’’ system as can be found on the Showmax.com site. However, please note:
If you select age groups 2-4 or 5-6 for a profile on Showmax.com your V1 app will display content aged 2-6 for that profile
If you select age groups 7-9 or 10-12 for a profile on Showmax.com your V1 app will display content aged 7-12 for that profile
If you select age groups 13-17 for a profile on Showmax.com your V1 app will display content aged 13-17 for that profile
If you select age groups Adult for a profile on Showmax.com your V1 app will display content aged 18+ for that profile
